In the Indian midsize SUV segment, the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun area already battling for dominance. With the arrival of the Tata Sierra, next-gen Renault Duster and Nissan Tekton, competition is set to heat up further. Aiming to strengthen their presence, the top 5 midsize SUVs are set to receive major updates during 2026-27. Let’s take a look at the key details of these upcoming SUVs in India.
New-Gen Hyundai Creta
The segment-leader Hyundai Creta is set to enter its third-generation with comprehensive design changes and significant feature upgrades. Codenamed SX3, the SUV will also receive a hybrid powertrain in 2027. With this update, the Creta lineup will offer four engine options including two petrol, one diesel and strong hybrid. Hyundai is likely to hybridize its tried-and-tested 1.5L petrol engine.
New-Gen Kia Seltos
The next-gen Kia Seltos is slated to hit roads in December 2025. The SUV will feature Kia’s new ‘Opposites United’ design language with a heavily revised front fascia. It will sport a newly-designed grille, revised bumper, new foglamp assembly and redesigned headlamps and DRLs. Major changes will be made inside the cabin as well such as new upholstery, redesigned dashboard and new features. The 2026 Kia Seltos will continue to come with the four engine options.
Honda Elevate Hybrid
According to reports, the Honda Elevate Hybrid will arrive in the second half of 2026, possibly around Diwali season. It would be quite early to comment on its powertrain and details. The SUV is likely to be offered with the City e:HEV’s 1.5L petrol hybrid powertrain, and deliver a fuel efficiency over 26kmpl. Save for a few hybrid-specific updates, no changes cosmetic changes are expected inside and out.
Skoda Kushaq & Volkswagen Taigun Facelifts
The updated Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun are scheduled to launch in early 2026. Both SUVs will receive Level 2 ADAS (autonomous driver assistance system) and a 360 degree camera. Only minimal cosmetic changes are expected. Under the hood, the 2026 Kushaq and Taigun will continue to feature the existing 115bhp, 1.0L turbo petrol and 150bhp, 1.5L turbo petrol engines.
