Instagram has started testing an “AI creator” label for accounts that frequently post AI-generated content. It seems like this is opt-in, so the owner of the account needs to want this label in order to get it. If they do go this route, then an “AI creator” label will appear on their profile and alongside their content.
It’s still a test, so not everyone has access to it yet, but the feature will be expanding “in the coming weeks”, according to Instagram. Why people who post AI slop would go through the trouble to tell you with this badge that they post AI slop is beyond us, but maybe there’s a method to the madness.
Or perhaps Instagram just wants to be able to say that it’s doing something about AI slop, even if the incentive structure is all wrong here – the “creators” posting AI slop have zero incentive to label themselves as “AI creators”, and Instagram has to know that. Interestingly, the company reassures its “AI creators” that opting in to this badge “does not impact” how their account or content is distributed across Instagram. It’s all about transparency, you see.
