iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max to have a smaller Dynamic Island

We’ve essentially been witnessing a game of “will it / won’t it” for the past few months when it comes to rumors and leaks about whether Apple will make the Dynamic Island punch-hole cutout smaller on the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max or not.

Today a tipster on X claims to have received new CAD files for the upcoming devices (if true, then most likely from a case maker who in turn got the files from Apple itself). As you can see in the image below, these new CAD files show a much smaller punch-hole cutout at the top of the screen than the one that’s been inside the Pro series since the iPhone 14 Pro.

It may or may not be an optical illusion, but the cutout does seem to be a tiny bit taller, while being obviously less wide. Anyway, if this is accurate, then it most likely means Apple has managed to put at least some of the Touch ID sensors under the screen – since those aren’t part of the cutout anymore, the cutout itself can be smaller.

Considering the fact that the rear design of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max is rumored to stay pretty much identical to that of their predecessors, the smaller Dynamic Island could be the main design overhaul coming in this year’s iPhone Pros.
