iPhone 18 Pro Max tipped to be the only model with a variable-aperture camera

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to debut next month with a new and faster A20 Pro chipset, larger batteries, and upgraded cameras. However, a new rumor claims that one of the rumored camera upgrades could be exclusive to the Pro Max model.

Rumors of a variable-aperture main camera for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series have been circulating for some time. Tipster Ice Universe now claims that Apple could reserve the feature for the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

According to the tipster, the variable-aperture camera hardware requires additional space, which the larger Pro Max model can accommodate. No further details have been shared.

Notably, the tipster previously claimed that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will weigh 240g and measure 9mm in thickness, making it slightly heavier and thicker than the current iPhone 17 Pro Max.

This would not be the first time Apple has reserved camera hardware for the Pro Max model. In 2023, the iPhone 15 Pro Max featured a tetraprism telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom, while the iPhone 15 Pro was limited to a 3x optical telephoto camera.
