Moving in an electrified direction, Kia has confimed four new electrified models for the Indian market slated to arrive by 2029. The upcoming range includes the Kia Seltos hybrid, Kia Sonet hybrid, Kia Carnes Clavis hybrid and a new locally-developed B-segment electric SUV. The announcement was made by Kia President and CEO Ho Sung Song at the brand’s 2026 CEO Investor Day event.
2027 Kia Seltos Hybrid
The new-generation Kia Seltos, which was launched last year, is expected to get a hybrid powertrain sometime in 2027. While details about its powertrain have not yet been revealed, the SUV is expected to feature a hybridized version of Kia’s tried-and-tested 1.5L petrol engine. The new strong hybrid powertrain is likely to be high on fuel efficiency.
New Kia Sonet Hybrid
The Kia Sonet is set to receive a full generational upgrade in late 2027, while its hybrid version is expected to arrive in 2028 or 2029. It will become Kia’s smallest and most affordable hybrid offering in India. The subcompact SUV will switch to the new K1 platform, which supports the latest electrical and electronics (E&E) architecture. This will enable advanced features such as OTA (over-the-air) updates, remote diagnostics and more.
The new K1 platform will also allow Kia to address the limited rear seat space of the current generation Sonet. In terms of features, the all-new Kia Sonet could be offered with a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen and driver’s display, replacing the existing 10.25-inch units. The subcompact SUV might also be equipped with the radar-based Level 2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) suite.
Kia Carens Clavis Hybrid
Similar to the Sonet, the Kia Carens Clavis will go hybrid with a generational upgrade in the coming years. The MPV likely to share its hybrid powertrain with the Seltos hybrid. The existing naturally aspirated petrol, turbo petrol, diesel and electric powertrains will also be carried over.
New Kia Compact Electric SUV
The upcoming B-segment SUV will be Kia’s most affordable and smallest electric offering in India. It will be a locally developed model, and could be positioned between the Syros and Seltos in the company’s product lineup.
