Leak: a Microsoft Surface Pro 13″ with a Snapdragon X2 Elite is coming soon

A couple of weeks ago, Microsoft officially unveiled the Surface Laptop 8 (13.8” and 15”) and the Surface Pro. These are powered by Intel Core Ultra Series 3 chips. Microsoft has now shifted its attention to Windows on ARM with the Surface Laptop Ultra, which is powered by the mighty Nvidia RTX Spark chipset. However, the company also has Snapdragon-based devices in the pipeline, according to a new leak.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 13” will feature the Snapdragon X2 Elite – one of the variants with 12 Prime “Oryon” cores. The chipset will be paired with 32GB of RAM (soldered) and a PCIe 4.0 SSD – you will be able to configure the tablet with 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of storage when buying it, but this SSD is replaceable, so you will be able to change it down the line.

The tablet will feature a 13” OLED display with support for the optional Surface Slim Pen. Also optional will be the Surface Pro 13” Flex Keyboard that can work in laptop mode (attached to the tablet) or via a wireless connection.

The display will support a stylus • Detachable keyboard

The Surface Pro 13” will feature two USB-C 4.0 ports, which will handle charging, data transfer and video output. The Hexagon NPU promises 80 TOPS of compute (INT8), which will power a variety of on-device AI applications. Also, since this is an ARM-based device, it will feature x86 emulation for software that doesn’t support both platforms.

The battery capacity is not listed, but the tablet will reportedly last up to 15.5 hours of video playback. It will be available in three colors: Black, Platinum and Dune. The keyboards will be covered in Alcantara in matching colors.

Up to 15.5 hours of battery life • Support for ARM and x86 software

Again, this is just leaked info – the official specs are expected to be revealed on June 16. There may be versions with lower power chips like the Snapdragon X2 Plus too, we’ll have to wait and see.
