In an exchange filing released in the post market hours of Wednesday, L&T said that after the conclusion of the transaction with Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited, a Government of Telangana enterprise, L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) will cease to be the company’s subsidiary.
As part of the share purchase agreement executed on April 29, L&T will divest around 741.30 crore shares in the arm for Rs 1,461.47 crore, subject to customary closing adjustments. The divestment is expected to be completed by June 30 this year. “Upon closing of the transaction, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited proposes to refinance the existing debt of LTMRHL. Consequently, the Corporate Guarantee and Letter of Comfort issued by the Company in respect of such debt shall be released,” the company further said in its exchange filing.
L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) accounted for 0.43% of the company’s total revenue (Rs 1,100.13 crore) and 0.83% of its net worth (Rs 807.49 crore) at the end of the financial year 2026.

L&T shares have gained around 1% in one week and more than 16% in one month to close at Rs 4,096.10 apiece on NSE on Wednesday. Overall, the stock is down more than 1% in 2026 so far.
In the longer term, the shares of the company gained more than 22% in one year, around 73% in three years and 205% in five years. The company has a market capitalisation of nearly Rs 5.62 lakh crore.
L&T earnings snapshot
The engineering and construction major is scheduled to release its results for the January-March quarter of FY26 on May 5. Back in January, the company reported a 4.3% YoY decline in consolidated net profit to Rs 3,215 crore for Q3 FY26, compared to Rs 3,359 crore reported in Q3 FY25.The company’s revenue from operations stood at Rs 71,450 crore in Q3FY26, up 10% higher than the Rs 64,668 crore revenue posted in the corresponding period of the last financial year.
Excluding this exceptional item, the company’s recurring PAT stood at Rs 4,406 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2025, registering a 31% YoY growth, the exchange filing said.
