Maruti e Vitara 5-Star BNCAP Safety Rating Explained


The upcoming Maruti e Vitara has achieved a full 5-star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) crash tests. It scored 31.39 points out of 32 in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 43 points out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection (COP), receiving an impressive a 5-star safety rating in both categories. Following the Dzire, Baleno and Invicto, the e Vitara is the fourth Maruti Suzuki model to be tested under BNCAP.

The variant tested under the BNCAP was the top-end Alpha trim, packed with a 61kWh battery pack. Its safety kit includes 7 airbags, front and rear parking sensors, a 360 degree camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic parking brake with an auto hold function and Isofix child seat anchorages. It’s important to note that the 5-star rating applies to all variants of the electric SUV.

In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the electric SUV provided ‘Good’ protection to the driver’s head, neck, thighs, pelvis and feet. However, protection for the driver’s chest and tibias was rated ‘Adequate’. In the side movable deformable barrier and side pole impact tests, the e Vitara offered ‘Good’ protection to all critical body regions.

The EV scored 12 out of 12 points for CRS (Child Restraint System) installation and 24 out of 24 points in the dynamic score. BNCAP conducted the tests using dummies of an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old child with both seats installed in the rearward facing position.  

Maruti e Vitara Battery & Range

The e Vitara lineup will come in three variants – Delta, Zeta and Alpha – and two battery pack options – 49kWh and 61kWh. The smaller battery version will deliver a claimed range of 344km, while the larger battery variant will offer 542km on WLTP cycle. Both batteries will be available with a FWD (front-wheel drive) system.
