MG Sales Cross 6,000 Units in April 2026 Amid Global Crisis


JSW MG Motor India has registered total sales of 6,018 units (including both ICE and NEV models) in April 2026, marking a 3% YoY growth. This growth comes despite the ongoing West Asia crisis, which has disrupted global supply chains and dampened consumer sentiment, leading to softer overall demand in the automotive market.

Expanding its portfolio, JSW MG Motor India is set to launch the MG Majestor full-sized SUV in May 2026. The SUV comes powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged diesel engine, generating power worth 215bhp and 478Nm of torque. Transmission duties are taken care of by an 8-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox. The SUV comes with both RWD (rear-wheel drive) and 4WD (four-wheel drive) options.

Features such as terrain management system, ‘M-Crawl’ function, a dedicated low-speed transfer case, three differential locks and water wading capacity of up to 810mm enhance its off-road capabilities.

MG’s First Plug-in Hybrid SUV For India

JSW MG Motor India is likely to introduce its first plug-in hybrid SUV by October, 2026. It’s expected to be based on the Wuling Starlight 560, which is already on sale in China. While the powertrain specifications of the India-bound model are still under the wraps, it’s expected to be offered with a 106bhp, 1.5L petrol engine paired with a 20.5kWh battery pack and FWD system. Its combined output stands at 197bhp and 230Nm of torque.

Globally, the Starlight 560 is also available with a fully electric powertrain, consisting a 56.7kWh battery pack paired to a front-axle mounted electric motor. It delivers a claimed range of 500km. MG might also introduce its electric iteration to challenge the Mahindra XEV 9S.
