MG Starlight 560 Coming This Diwali

A test mule of the Wuling Starlight 560 SUV has been spotted at a charging station in India. For people who are not aware, JSW MG Motor India has confirmed a new midsize SUV (internally codenamed 520) for a Diwali 2026 launch. In March 2026, the carmaker patented the design of the Wuling Starlight 560, which is expected to be the first C-segment offering from MG. Interestingly, it will also be the brand’s first plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) aimed at mass-market segment.

When launched, the Starlight 560 could either carry a different nameplate or be introduced as the MG Starlight 560. It will be positioned against models such as Mahindra XUV 7XO, Tata Safari and the upcoming 7-seater SUVs from Toyota, Maruti Suzuki and Renault.

PHEV & Electric Powertrains

Speculations suggest that MG might introduce the Starlight 560 SUV with both plug-in hybrid and electric powertrains, similar to its global counterpart. The plug-in hybrid version features a 1.5L petrol engine paired with a 20.5kWh battery pack, delivering a combined power of 197bhp and 230Nm of torque.

The Wuling Starlight 560 EV comes equipped with a 56.7kWh battery pack mated with a front-mounted electric motor that’s good enough for 136bhp and 200Nm. The PHEV version offers a claimed pure electric range of up to 100km, while the EV variant promises a driving range of up to 500km as per the CLTC (China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle).

Dimensions & Features

Similar to the China-spec model, the India-bound MG Starlight 560 SUV is expected to be offered in both 5 and 7-seats configurations. The Wuling Starlight 560 measures 4,745mm in length, 1,850mm in width and 1,755mm in height.

The overall cabin layout and features of the upcoming MG plug-in hybrid SUV are expected to be identical to the Wuling counterpart. Key features might include an 8.8-inch digital driver’s display, a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 6-speaker audio system, OTA updates, and more.
