Motorola Edge 70 Fusion hands-on

Motorola unveiled the Edge 70 Fusion at the MWC and simultaneously with that it launched an identically-named but different phone in India. And as it turned out after the fact, Moto will be selling both versions in Europe.

We got to handle the slimmer variant. That phone measures 162.8mm tall and 75.6mm wide, it’s the same for both versions. The difference comes in the thickness – 7.21mm for the slim one and 7.99mm for the other one – as well as the weight – 177g and 193g, respectively.

This is caused by the different batteries inside – the unit that we have in front of us is equipped with a 5,200mAh battery. The alternative model has a larger 7,000mAh battery instead.

We appreciate that Motorola didn’t chase thinness to the extremes that it did with the 6.0mm thick Edge 70. However, that one has a 4,800mAh battery, which means that the thicker and heavier Fusion gains only 400mAh over its super-slim sibling.

What we appreciate even more is that the company is giving consumers a choice – you can have a fairly thin phone or you can have one with amazing battery life. Unfortunately, we don’t have the 7,000mAh model on hand to check how much of an issue the extra bulk is.

The 2026 Fusion is taller and wider than last year’s Edge 60 Fusion (which measured 161mm tall and 73mm wide). This is because it has a larger display – the new OLED panel has a 6.78” diagonal, up from 6.67”. It’s curved on all four sides this time around, but that didn’t help keep the height and width increases in check. The left and right sides are significantly more curved than the top and bottom sides.

The 5,200mAh Edge 70 Fusion is 0.8mm thinner than the old one and we do feel it in the hand. But having already handled the much thinner Edge 70, the Fusion doesn’t elicit that “wow, it’s so thin!” reaction that we got with the vanilla model. As for the 7,000mAh variant, that’s as thick as the Edge 60 Fusion (though a bit heavier).

This is the first Motorola to use the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, but we are well familiar with this silicon from other brands – it has been featured on the likes of the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G, Realme 14 Pro+ and Nothing Phone (3a) and (3a) Pro. Which is to say that we don’t expect significant improvements in CPU and GPU performance over the Dimensity 7300 that powered the Edge 60 Fusion. The Snapdragon is a bit faster, but “a bit” is as far as it goes.

The new Fusion has the standard suite of certifications for ruggedness. It is rated IP68 (dust tight, can survive submersion in fresh water for 30 minutes) and IP69 (protection against high-pressure water jets). The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i, the same as last year’s model.

The camera island looks very similar to just about every Motorola currently on the market, including the old Fusion. However, the actual hardware inside is slightly different than last year – the 50MP 1/1.56” sensor in the main is a Lytia 710 instead of a 700C. It still has 1.0µm pixels (with a 4-in-1 binning option) and a wider f/1.8 lens with OIS. Next to that is a 13MP ultra-wide with a 120° f/2.2 lens (with PDAF and macro mode) and a 3-in-1 light sensor. The selfie camera on the front is a 32MP unit (0.7µm, f/2.2).

The Moto Edge 70 Fusion has a 50+13MP rear and a 32MP front camera

This year, Motorola worked with Pantone to pick four colors – Orient Blue, Silhouette, Sporting Green and Country Air – and created a texture inspired by nylon and linen for the rear panel. We handled three of those (except Orient Blue).

The Motorola Edge 70 Fusion is available now in Europe at a price of €420/£370 for an 8/256GB phone with a 5,200mAh battery. If you want the bigger battery, just add €20/£10 to the price. In either case, you will need to supply your own 68W TurboPower charger. The 7,000mAh variant will launch in India too in the next few days.
