NEW DELHI: Panic gripped Mumbai’s Powai area on Thursday after a man identified as Rohit Arya allegedly took 19 people hostage, including 17 children, a senior citizen and one unidentified man, inside a flat in Powai.Police later confirmed that all the children were rescued safely and the man has been detained. According to police, Arya had released a video in which he demanded to speak to certain individuals and warned that he would harm himself and the children and “set everything on fire” if prevented.Officials described him as mentally unstable and said they acted swiftly to defuse the situation. Mumbai Police teams, including senior officers and a quick response unit, rushed to the spot after receiving information about the standoff. “All children have been safely rescued from the spot. Arya, has been arrested by the police. The incident reportedly took place inside a residential flat-cum-studio space in Powai. An investigation is underway.
