Volkswagen India is all set to enter the highly competitive sub-4 metre SUV segment with an all-new model in 2027. While the carmaker hasn’t yet revealed the name and details of the upcoming compact SUV, it’s expected to be based on the Skoda Kylaq. When launched, it will be positioned against the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Soent, Mahindra XUV 3XO and Skoda Kylaq. The new Volkswagen small SUV is expected to be priced between Rs 8 lakh – Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom).
Similar to the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun, the new Volkswagen compact SUV and Skoda Kylaq will share their platform, powertrain, components and features. However, both models will carry different design language.

Design Highlights
The upcoming model could derive several design elements from the Volkswagen Tera, which already on sale in the Brazilian market. However, it’s likely to receive some India-specific changes such as slim LED headlamps connected via a thin DRL strip, cladding on bumpers and door sills, roof rails and connected LED taillamps. The SUV might also feature differently designed alloy wheels and Taigun-like illuminated logos.
Dimensions & GT Version
The VW Tera measures 4,151mm in length, 1,773mm in width and 1,504mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,556mm. Meanwhile, the new Volkswagen small SUV will be slightly shorter in length to fit India’s sub-4 metre tax bracket. Volkswagen might also introduce sportier GT versions, features a few cosmetic upgrades and special badges over the standard model.
Interior & Features
The interior and feature list of the new Volkswagen compact SUV are expected to be largely similar to the Skoda Kylaq. It could be offered with a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver’s display, wireless smartphone connectivity, automatic climate control, a single-pane sunroof, wireless phone charger, ventilated and powered front seats and more.
Engine & Gearbox
Based on the MQB A0 architecture, the upcoming Volkswagen small EV is expected to feature a 1.0L direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine, borrowed from the Skoda Kylaq. Transmission choices are likely to include a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic.
