JSW Motors is set to make debut as an independent carmaker in India through a technology partnership with China-based Cherry Automobile. The brand’s first offering will be a 5-seater PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) SUV based on the Jetour T2. It will be called the JSW Combat in India and will be unveiled on December 4, 2026. The SUV will be assembled at the company’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility in Maharashtra.
The new JSW hybrid SUV is expected to go on sale early next year. While its official price announcement is still a few months away, the SUV is expected to be priced around Rs 30 lakh for the entry-level variant and Rs 50 lakh for the top-end trim (all, ex-showroom). At this price point, it will be positioned against the Honda ZR-V.
Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain
Globally, the Jetour T2 i-DM PHEV is available with a 1.5-litre direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine paired with two electric motors and a 26.7kWh battery pack. A similar hybrid setup is likely to be offered with the JSW Combat.
The combined output of the hybrid system stands at 381bhp and 610Nm of torque. The SUV will be equipped with a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. The Jetour T2 is claimed to offer a NEDC-rate electric only range of 139km and a combined range of over 1,000km.
The China-spec T2 can be charged from 30 to 100% in 3 hours using a 6.6kW AC charger. With a 50kW DC charger, the battery can be charged from 30 to 80% in around 27 minute. The SUV comes with both FWD (front-wheel drive) and AWD (all-wheel drive) configurations. However, the India-spec JSW Combat is likely to get an FWD system only.
Key Features
As a premium offering, the new JSW plug-in hybrid SUV is expected to packed with a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a 10.6-inch digital driver’s display, a four-spoke steering wheel with JSW branding, a panoramic sunroof, a 540-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, powered and ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, and many more.
