Amid increasing competition, Hyundai Motor India has confirmed 26 new product launches across ICE (internal combustion engine), hybrid and EV (electric vehicle) segments by 2030. The upcoming range will include 7-8 all-new models catering to existing as well as new segments, including MPVs and off-road SUVs. With an aim to tap mass-market EV segment, the South Korean automaker will introduce its first Made-in-India and Made-for-India electric SUV, benefiting from a localized supply chain.
Codenamed HE1i, the upcoming Hyundai electric SUV is expected to debut around 2026 Diwali festive season, followed by its market launch in 2027. It will measure under 4 metres in length, and will rival the Tata Punch EV and Nexon EV in terms of pricing and positioning.
Battery & Range
While the official details of the Hyundai HE1i are still under the wraps, the compact SUV is expected to share its platform and powertrain with the Hyundai Inster EV sold in European markets. Globally, the Inster EV is available with two battery pack options 42kWh and 49kWh, delivering claimed driving ranges of 300km and 355km, respectively. It can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 30 minutes using a DC fast charger supporting up to 120kW.
Design & Features
Built on the E-GMP (K) platform, the new Hyundai electric SUV is likely to feature a boxy and upright stance similar to the Inster EV. Several design elements could also be borrowed from its global-spec counterpart including a sealed-off grille, circular projector headlamps, a sporty silver skid plate, prominent wheel arches, roof rails, black body cladding, squared-off tailgate and pixel-style LED taillamps.
The interior could also share a strong resemblance with the Hyundai Inster EV. The upcoming Hyundai electric SUV (HE1i) is expected to be equipped with features such as a dual 10.25-inch display setup, ventilated front seats, wireless phone charger, wireless smartphone connectivity, OTA Updates, automatic climate control, Hyundai BlueLink services, ADAS and many more.
