India is the world’s third-largest automotive and passenger vehicle market, and it’s expanding at a fast pace, with more than 2.83 million units sold in FY2026. Aiming to tap into the country’s growing PV market, several new carmakers are planning to enter India with their global product lineups in the coming years, including Denza.
Denza – A Brief
For people not in the know, Denza was established in 2010 as a joint venture between BYD and Daimler (Mercedes-Benz) to develop premium new-energy vehicles (NEVs). While BYD contributed its expertise in batteries and electric powertrains, Merecedes-Benz utilized its experience in premium vehicle engineering and design. However, Denza became a wholly owned BYD premium brand in 2024 after Mercedes-Benz exited the partnership.
Upcoming Denza Cars in India
Denza is now setting its eyes on the Indian market and is planning to introduce the Denza D9 luxury MPV and Denza Z9 GT fastback by the end of 2026. Both models are available globally with electric and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain options. The D9 will be positioned against the Toyota Vellfire with an estimated price of around Rs 80 lakh, while the Z9 GT will cater a niche segment with an expected price of around Rs 1.2 to 1.5 crore.
Denza D9
The Denza D9 features BYD’s renowned a 103kWh Blade battery, and delivers a claimed WLTP range of 520km. Its combined output stand at 313bhp and 360Nm. The luxury MPV supports 200kW DC fast charging. Being a premium MPV, it offers features such as a large central touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, HUD, up to 16 speakers Devialet premium audio system, 50W wireless smartphone charging, tri-zone automatic climate control, ADAS and more.
Denza Z9 GT
The Denza Z9 GT PHEV comes with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine paired with an electric motor and BYD Blade battery, delivering a claimed combined range of 805km. The electric version, with 1,156bhp three electric motors and 2nd-gen BYD Blade battery, offers a claimed WLTP range of 600km. It supports 1,500kW Flash ultra-fast charging.
