New Luxury German EV Is Here – 669km Range, 33-Min Fast Charging


The BMW i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB) is now on sale in India at an introductory price of Rs 79.6 lakh (ex-showroom). It’s available in a single eDrive35L M Sport variant, along with a limited-run First Edition. The 99 units of the i5 LWB First Edition allocated for India were sold out even before its launch. The i5 LWB will be the brand’s first locally assembled EV and will be produced at BMW Group facility in Chennai.

Battery, Range & Charging Time

The powertrain setup of the BMW i5 LWB includes an 81.6kWh battery pack and a rear-mounted electric motor producing 268bhp and 410Nm of torque. The electric SUV accelerates from 0 to 100kmph in 6.7 seconds and offers a top speed of 195kmph.

The i5 LWB offers a claimed MIDC range of up to 669km. The EV can be charged from 10 to 80% in 33 minutes by using up to 160kW DC fast charger. It also comes with an 11kW BMW wallbox charger.

Dimensions & Colours

Claimed to be the largest vehicle in its category, the BMW i5 LWB measures 5,175mm in length, 2,156mm in width and 1,520mm in height with a wheelbase of 3,105mm. Its ground clearance has also been increased. The electric sedan comes in four colour options – Oxide Grey, Mineral White, Carbon Black and Phytonic Blue.

Interior & Features

Inside the cabin, the BMW i5 Long Wheelbase offers a massive 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with BMW Operating System 8.5 and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity along with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

Other key features include connected car functions, Sky Lounge panoramic sunroof, Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, wireless charging trays, four zone climate control, Digital Key Plus, vegan Veganza upholstery and more.

Safety Package

In terms of safety, the BMW i5 Long Wheelbase EV offers multiple airbags, dynamic stability control, ABS with brake assist and dynamic braking lights, cornering brake control, electric parking brake with auto hold function, Isofix child seat mounting, etc.
