New Maruti 5-Seater Hybrid SUV – What We Know So Far


Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch an all-new midsize SUV on September 3, 2025. The model has become the talk of the town even before its official name reveal and market arrival, thanks to leaked information and spy images. Widely referred as the ‘Maruti Escudo’, the SUV will carry a different nameplate at launch. It will be a 5-seater midsize SUV based on the Grand Vitara, and positioned as a new flagship offering in Maruti’s Arena lineup. Let’s take a look at the key details we know so far about the upcoming new Maruti 5-seater hybrid SUV (Escudo).

Petrol, Hybrid and CNG Options

1.5L K15C NA petrol 103bhp
1.5L Atkinson cycle hybrid 116bhp
1.5L petrol + CNG kit 88bhp

The new Maruti SUV is expected to share its powertrains with the Grand Vitara, which is currently available with a 103bhp naturally aspirated petrol, a 116bhp petrol-hybrid and an 88bhp CNG options. Transmission choices will include both manual and automatic units.

As per leaked details, the Maruti Escudo will be the brand’s first model to feature an underbody CNG tank instead of placing it in the boot. This arrangement will address customer complains about limited boot space in Maruti’s CNG cars.

What will further differentiate it from the Grand Vitara will be the 4WD (four-wheel drive) system, which could be offered only on higher trims. The Maruti Grand Vitara comes with both FWD (front-wheel drive) and AWD (all-wheel drive) configurations.

According to the leaked details, the new Maruti 5-seater hybrid SUV will be the brand’s first model to come with Level-2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) and Dolby Atmos technology. Both these features are missing on its arch rival – the Hyundai Creta. Other expected key features are

Design & Dimensions

The new Maruti 5-seater hybrid SUV is expected to measure nearly 4.3 metres in length. Previous media reports suggest that the Maruti Escudo will be slightly longer than the Grand Vitara and offer more boot space. The leaked image reveals that the SUV will feature a sealed-off grille, newly-designed headlamps with integrated LED DRLs and revised fog lamps at the front end.

The side profile will be adorned by squarish wheel arches, alloy wheels, body coloured ORVMs, conventional door handles and silver roof rails. At the rear, the new Maruti 5-seater hybrid SUV will carry LED taillamps connected through a light bar.
