Maruti Suzuki has confirmed a new premium three-row SUV (codenamed Y17) for the Indian market. While the official launch timeline and detailed specifications are still yet to be revealed, the model is likely to debut by the end of 2026 or early 2027. The upcoming Maruti 7-seater SUV has already entered its testing phase, and has been spotted multiple times. Spy images suggest that it will be based on the Grand Vitara, sharing design elements, features, powertrain options and components.
Competition SUVs
In terms of pricing and positioning, the 7-seater Maruti Grand Vitara will compete with the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, and MG Hector. It will also face challenge from upcoming models like the 7-seater Renault Duster, Kia Sorento-based SUV and Hyundai Ni1i (codename). Maruti Suzuki’s Kharkhoda facility will serve as the manufacturing hub for this new model.

Design: Blend of Grand Vitara & eVitara
The design and styling of the Maruti Y17 SUV are likely to be largely similar to the Grand Vitara. However, it’s expected to incorporate some e Vitara-inspired elements such as lighting signatures, and redesigned front and rear bumpers. One of its test mules featured a longer rear overhang, indicating a possible increase in wheelbase to accommodate the thrid row of seats.
Premium Interior Expected
Interior details are currently under wraps. However, the upcoming 7-seater Maruti Grand Vitara might see a redesigned dashboard with an integrated large, free-standing touchscreen infotainment system. Most features are expected to be carried over from the Grand Vitara including the Level 2 ADAS, ventilated front seats, leatherette steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, a fully digital instrument cluster, wireless charger, HUD, a 360-degree camera, tyre pressure monitoring system and more.
Mild & Strong Hybrid Powertrain Options
Similar to the Grand Vitara, the new Maruti 7-seater SUV will be designed on the Global C platform. It will likely to be offered with a 104bhp, 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine producing power worth 104bhp along with a 1.5L petrol-hybrid powertrain delivering 116bhp. Both manual and automatic transmissions will be on offer, while the higher trims are expected to get the AWD (all-wheel drive) system.
