New Maruti Fronx Hybrid Launch Timeline – Cheaper Than Toyota Hybrid?

Mauti Suzuki has confirmed the development of its own strong hybrid powertrain for future mass-market products, while its high-end hybrid models will continue to use Toyota’s Atkinson cycle setup. The Maruti Fronx will be the brand’s first model to feature this in-house strong hybrid technology. While the carmaker hasn’t officially confirmed the launch timeline, the Maruti Fronx hybrid is likely to arrive in 2027.

The compact crossover is set to receive a midlife update in the second half of 2026. However, the facelifted Fronx is expected to be offered with the existing 90bhp, 1.2L, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol and 100bhp, three-cylinder turbo petrol engine options. The strong hybrid powertrain is expected to be introduced a later stage.

Maruti’s Strong Hybrid Powertrain – What We Know So Far

According to media reports, Maruti Suzuki is likely to electrify its Z12E petrol engine, which will be different from Toyota’s series-parallel hybrid system. Maruti’s HEV technology will be significantly affordable and simpler, while delivering fuel efficiency of up to 35kmpl. This system also known as “range extender”, which includes a petrol engine working as a generator, an electric motor driving the wheels, supported by a battery pack.

With ‘Hybrid’ badges, the overall design and styling of the Maruti Fronx hybrid are likely to remain largely similar to its ICE counterpart (the facelifted version). The feature list might also remain mostly unchanged. However, spy images suggest that the compact crossover will receive an ADAS suite.

New Maruti Fronx 2026 Facelift Coming Soon

The 2026 Maruti Fronx facelift is currently undergoing testing in the country. While details remain under wraps, the compact crossover is expected to receive subtle design changes. Inside the cabin, it might get a larger touchscreen with an updated UI, ventilated seats, a sunroof and a new digital driver’s display.

In term of pricing and positioning, the updated Fronx will continue to take on the Kia Soenet, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Skoda Kylaq.
