New Maruti & Toyota 7-Seater EV MPVs Launch Timeline

Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has planned several new model launches across segments with multiple powertrain options, including ICE, electric, hybrid, CNG, flex-fuel and bio-fuel technologies. The Indo-Japanese automaker currently has a single electric offering in its portfolio – the Maruti eVitara, which will be soon joined by a new electric MPV (codenamed YMC).

The official launch timeline of the Maruti Suzuki YMC is yet to be announced, the model is expected to debut in late 2026 or early 2027. It could be showcased in its close-to-production version at the 2027 Bharat Mobility Show in February. Toyota will also introduce its derivative of the Maruti electric MPV by 2027 or 2028.

Design Highlights

Spy images suggest that the Maruti YMC will feature a sealed-off grille, bumper integrated air vents for battery cooling, and aero-optimized alloy wheels. The rear profile will get a sporty bumper, connected LED taillamps and reflectors. It’s expected to measure around 4.5 metres in length, and share the Heartect-e platform with the eVitara.

Upcoming Toyota Electric MPV

Toyota’s version of the YMC will feature slightly different design elements such as Toyota’s signature grille, new headlamps and DRLs and sportier bumpers. The interior is likely to share its overall design and layout with the Maruti YMC. However, it could get a different cabin theme, upholstery and trim elements.

Powertrain To Be Shared With eVitara

The upcoming Maruti electric MPV is expected to borrow the 49kWh and 61kWh battery packs from the eVitara. Both battery packs will be paired with a front-axle mounted electric motor. On the eVitara, the 49kW battery pack delivers 144bhp with 193Nm, while the 61kWh battery pack offers 174bhp and 193Nm. The Maruti YMC could be offered with a RWD (rear-wheel drive) system, and is expected to offer a driving range of over 500km per charge.

Expected Pricing

Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur manufacturing facility in Gujarat will serve as the production hub for the new electric MPV. The model is expected to be priced around Rs 14 lakh for the entry-level with the smaller battery pack, while the top-end trim with the larger battery pack could cost nearly Rs 18 lakh.
