Official pre-bookings for the upcoming new MG 7-seater electric SUV have been commenced at a token sum of Rs 21,000, ahead of its India debut on August 26, 2026. Interested buyers can reserve the vehicle by visiting the brand’s official website. JSW MG Motor India has also released a teaser video, revealing several design elements of the three-row EV.
The upcoming MG electric SUV is widely speculated to be named MG Hector Hawk. However, the latest teaser features a Curtiss P-40 Tomahawk World War II fighter aircraft, while the carmaker recently trademarked the name Hector Tomahawk in India. It hints that the new 7-seater electric SUV could be called the MG Hector Tomahak.
New Platform
The new MG 7-seater EV will become the brand’s first model to be built on the all-new ADAPT (Advanced Drive Architecture Platform), which supports multiple powertrains including plug-in hybrid, battery electric, strong hybrid and range-extender technologies. The teaser shows a charging port, highlighting the vehicle’s electric nature.
Electric Powertrain
While the powertrain specifications will be revealed in the coming weeks, the MG Hector Tomahawk EV is expected to share its powertrain with the Wuling Starlight 560 sold in China. The latter features a 69.2kWh LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery pack paired with a front-mounted electric motor, delivering power worth 204PS and 310Nm of torque. This setup delivers a claimed range of 530km (CLTC).
Plug-in Hybrid at a Later Stage?
In Chinese market, the Wuling Starlight 560 is also available with a plug-in hybrid version, featuring a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine paired to an electric motor and a 20.5kWh battery pack. Its combined output stands at 197bhp. The new MG 7-seater electric SUV could also be offered with a PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) powertrain at a later stage.
