Chinese EV manufacturer, BYD emerged as one of the strongest performers with sales of nearly 6,000 units in 2025. The current lineup includes four models – Seal, Sealion 7, eMax 7 and Atto 3. The company now aims to further strengthen its market presence by doubling its sales this year, with a major focus on premium segments. Recently, BYD filed a design patent for the Leopard 8 plug-in hybrid luxury off-road SUV, which is sold as the Denza B8 and Fangchengbao Bao 8 in global markets.
Battery, Range & Performance
Based on body-on-frame chassis, the BYD Leopard 8 is available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, consisting of a 2.0, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, two electric motors and a 36.8kWh battery pack. This setup delivers a combined massive output of 748bhp and 760Nm of torque. Paired with an eCVT transmission, it does 0 to 100kmph in 4.8 seconds. The Leopard 8 offers a claimed electric range of 100km (WLTP cycle) and a total driving range of 1,200km (CLTC cycle).
Off-Road Features & Mechanism
The SUV comes with a full-time AWD (dual motor setup) system and multiple terrain modes – Sand, Snow, Off-road, Comfort and Sport. Features such as a high ground clearance, dedicated off-road platform, electronic differential locks at front and rear, chassis “transparent view” and intelligent hydraulic suspension system further enhance its off-road capabilities.
