No Strong Hybrid For Nissan Tekton – Duster’s 1.8L Hybrid to Stay Exclusive


Renault-Nissan Alliance had announced multiple India-specific SUVs including the third-gen Renault Duster, the Nissan Tekton and their respective 7-seater versions. While the all-new Duster is already on sale, the Nissan Tekton is set to make official debut on July 9, 2026. The three-row versions of both SUVs are expected to arrive in 2027.

The upcoming Tekton is essentially Nissan’s derivative of the Duster, featuring a distinctive design language heavily inspired by the Nissan Patrol. Both SUVs share the 1.0L turbo and 1.3L turbo petrol engines. Meanwhile, the Renault Duster hybrid is set to launch around the 2026 Diwali season.

No Plan To Share Strong Hybrid With Nissan

Coming to the key point, rumours have suggested that the Nissan Tekton will also borrow the 1.8L strong hybrid powertrain from the Renault Duster. However, our sources reveal that Renault intends to keep this powertrain exclusive to its own SUV lineup and currently has no plans to share it with Nissan India. This strategy is expected to give Renault a competitive edge over the Nissan Tekton.

Renault will introduce the Duster hybrid with a 1.8L petrol engine paired with a 49bhp electric motor, a 20bhp hybrid starter generator and a 1.4kWh battery pack. This system delivers a combined power output of 160bhp and 172Nm of torque.

Renault’s New FuturReady Strategy

Renault recently announced its FuturReady mid-term strategy, including 7 new models and 2 new architectures for the Indian market. All these products are slated to arrive by 2030. The upcoming range will be available across multiple powertrain options – petrol, CNG, electric and hybrid. Renault’s new RGEP and RGMP platforms will underpin the future range, with the former serving to the smaller, entry-level models and the latter underpinning larger SUVs and electrified models.

Additionally, the French automaker aims to make India a key export hub by leveraging the country’s manufacturing capabilities and engineering expertise to support its global operations.
