Oppo Reno16 Pro in for review

It’s time for the international release of Oppo’s Reno16 series, and we’ve got the Reno16 Pro for unboxing. The global Reno16 Pro is closer to the Chinese Reno16 than to the Chinese Pro, which means it’s a 6.32-inch phone, and not a 6.78-inch one.

The global Reno16 Pro is also close to its global counterpart, the Reno16. It’s easier to name their differences than their similarities. The Reno16 Pro has a Dimensity 8550 Super, a 200MP main camera, and 12GB of RAM as standard.

The Reno16 has a 50MP main camera, a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 SoC, and 8GB or 12GB of RAM (only 8GB in the EU).

Both phones share the same design – Oppo calls it the 3D Pop Planet design, and in the company’s own words, it’s the industry’s first HoloVerse 3D tech, featuring a nebula-inspired effect that shifts with light and movement. Here it is in action on our TikTok.

The camera island is nicely blended into the rear panel’s surface, sloping into it. The design aims to fight off dust accumulation at the camera island’s edges.

Both phones also share a dedicated AI Snap Key on the upper left edge. By default, it captures whatever you’re looking at and puts it in the AI Mind Space. But, like on OnePlus phones, you can customize the button to open the camera, the flashlight, mute the ringer, or open another app.

A close to indistinguishable Reno16 pair

Back to the differences. The Pro has a 144Hz maximum refresh rate, while the Reno16’s is 120Hz, but you’ll only notice this in supported games, if at all.

The Oppo Reno16 Pro runs smoothly. We’ve always enjoyed ColorOS, despite its iOS-inspired looks, and Oppo promises that the Reno16 Pro will remain smooth even after six years of use.

The Oppo Reno16 Pro comes in Pop White and Starlight Black, and in either 12/256GB or 12/512GB. The Oppo Reno16 Pro kicks off at a discounted price of €900 (until July 31, normally €1,100). The battery capacity – the phone could pack as much as 6,700mAh, but it could also ship with less in specific markets.

Inside the box, there’s the phone itself, an 80W charger, a USB-A to USB-C cable, and a clear case.
