Oppo’s upcoming ColorOS said to be borrowing some Liquid Glass UI elements from Apple

The next big release for Oppo’s Android skin is ColorOS 17, which will presumably be based on Android 17. This is coming within the next few months, and today a rumor from China claims it will draw more than a little bit of inspiration from Apple’s Liquid Glass design, introduced with iOS 26 last year.

Unfortunately there aren’t many details, but the source claims Oppo’s version is more “liquid acrylic” than “liquid glass”, since it has “relatively weak refraction” on the UI elements. The advantage of choosing this option is allegedly lower power consumption and better readability.

The flip side is that the UI doesn’t have as strong a visual impact as Apple’s. It will however still be recognized as being inspired by Liquid Glass, that’s for sure. ColorOS 17 will also apparently have more harmonious rounded corners throughout the UI, as well as real-time lighting effects in notification pop-ups, the Dynamic Island dupe, and while music is played.

We can’t wait to hear more about Oppo’s design choices for ColorOS 17. Since Android 17 is expected to be released by Google very soon, Oppo might even start teasing ColorOS 17 in the following weeks, so stay tuned.
