Ultimately, Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar suffers from cliched narrative beats and redundant writing. Yet, buoyed by confident performances from its young cast and a soulful album, it manages to hold its ground. If glossy, modern relationship dramas with a fresh-faced ensemble align with your cinematic taste, this one makes for a breezy, one-time watch.

Overall, Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar has its moments. Its characters are busy chasing the people they fancied in school, but the film never quite makes you root for these romances as much as it should. That said, watch it with your friends and the familiar setting might get you talking about the people you fancied and the confessions you never made. Your stories might just be better written than this one.

PPDB captures the uncertainties of Gen Z romance through relatable situations, witty dialogue and promising newcomers, but its conventional storytelling keeps it from hitting the right notes. It may rekindle memories of your first love or childhood crush, but this is one romance that’s better experienced once than revisited.

Phela Pyaar Doosri Baar starts with a promising idea about friendship, first love and second chances, but fails to turn it into an engaging cinematic experience. While a few funny punches work, the stretched screenplay, forced scenes and lack of emotional depth weigh the film down. The attempt to recreate the charm of successful romantic comedies falls short, leaving the audience with little to connect with beyond a handful of amusing moments. Ultimately, Phela Pyaar Doosri Baar is a largely forgettable watch that struggles to make its love story feel genuine.
