The Indian midsize SUV segment recorded a strong 23.6% growth in FY2026, with the Hyundai Creta leading the charts. A total of 2,01,921 units of the SUV were sold during the FY, followed by the Mahindra Scorpio (1,78,000 units) and Mahindra Thar (1,26,261 units).
Aiming to challenge the Creta’s dominance, OEMs such as Tata, Toyota, Nissan and Maruti Suzuki are preparing to launch new models including all-new SUVs, facelifts and rebadged versions. Here’s a quick look at these upcoming midsize SUVs.
Toyota Ebella
Based on the Heartect-e platform, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella is the rebadged version of the Maruti eVitara and is expected to launch in the next couple of months. The lineup will come with three powertrain configurations – E1 49kWh, E2 61kWh and E3 61kWh. Both battery packs are paired with the front-axle mounted electric motor. Toyota claims that the eBella offers an ARAI-certified range of 440km for the 49kWh battery pack and 543km for the 61kWh battery pack.
Tata Sierra EV
The Tata Sierra EV is slated to launch in the second quarter of 2026 (April to June), to rival Hyundai Creta EV. The carmaker has confirmed that the EV SUV will be available with both RWD and AWD setups. While official powertrain details are yet to be revealed, it’s expected to share drive units with the Harrier EV and Punch EV (for the lower variants).
Nissan Tekton
Nissan Tekton will be Nissan’s version of the Renault Duster, featuring a distinct design language. The SUV will underpin the CMF-B platform and is expected to come with the 156bhp, 1.3L turbo petrol and 1.0L turbo petrol engine options. A strong hybrid version could be introduced later, following the launch of the Duster hybrid. However, there is no official confirmation yet.
Maruti Grand Vitara/Toyota Hyryder Facelifts
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and its Toyota’s counterpart, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, are expected to receive midlife updates in late 2026. Both SUVs are likely to witness minimal design changes and feature upgrades, while retaining the existing mild-petrol hybrid and strong hybrid powertrains.
