The RedMagic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro has a ridiculously long name, but it might just be the best-specced Android tablet in 2026. Coming in as a successor to last year’s RedMagic Astra, the new edition brings the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, which is configurable with up to 16GB RAM and 1TB UFS 4.1 Pro storage.
Like its predecessor, the new device is launching in China first and is set to make its way internationally as the RedMagic Astra 2.
The new device features the same-sized 9.06-inch OLED with 2.4K resolution (1,504 x 2,400px) and a snappier 185Hz refresh rate, compared to 165Hz on the first-gen Astra. To help keep latency down, RedMagic is utilizing a Synaptics S3930 touch controller, which supports a 300Hz touch sampling rate.
It also features RedMagic’s proprietary RedCore R4 gaming chip as well as an updated active liquid cooling system that is exposed on the back. True to its gamer-centric appeal, the tablet also gets RGB lighting.
Another cool addition is the PC emulator with Steam support. This is a custom translation layer integrated into the Game Space app that enables x86 applications (and games) to run on the tablet. According to RedMagic, users can play titles at up to 2K resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate.

Elsewhere, Gaming Tablet 5 Pro/Astra 2 features an 8,300mAh battery with 80W fast charging support. The new addition is a second USB-C port which allows for charging and connecting peripherals. Only the main port at the bottom of the device is a USB 3.2 spec and supports the max 80W charging speed.
