Starting with the segment leader, the Hyundai Creta, its 1.5L turbo petrol engine promises a claimed fuel efficiency of 18.2kmpl. This engine produces a maximum power of 160bhp and 253Nm of torque. The latest entrant in the segment, the Tata Sierra, is powered by a 1.5L turbo petrol engine producing 160bhp and returns an ARAI mileage of 13.5kmpl. It’s important to note that ARAI hasn’t yet officially confirmed this figure, as the mentioned fuel efficiency was recently revealed via a filed RTI (Right to Information).
Moving forward, the newly-launched Skoda Kushaq facelift delivers a fuel efficiency of 18.27kmpl. The SUV features a 1.5L turbo petrol engine, paired with a DCT automatic gearbox. The Kushaq’s sibling, the Volkswagen Taigun, which features the same engine setup, offers a slightly higher claimed mileage of 19.01kmpl.
The new Renault Duster has the most powerful turbo-petrol engine in the segment, and its DCT variant’s mileage is slightly better than the Hyundai Creta and close to Kushaq. The VW Taigun DCT offers the best fuel efficiency, while the Tata Sierra is clearly behind in the segment.
