With the Galaxy S26 Ultra and its siblings now official, attention is already shifting to the Galaxy S27 series. The latest leak, however, isn’t directly about the 2027 phones themselves. Instead, it points to a new camera sensor currently being developed by Samsung, which could eventually make its way into the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
According to tipster Digital Chat Station, Samsung is developing a new flagship 200MP ISOCELL sensor, reportedly dubbed HPA. The sensor is said to feature a large 1/1.12-inch format and could debut in smartphones in 2027.
The tipster also claims that the sensor will support LOFIC technology. While there is no explicit mention of the Galaxy S27 Ultra, it would not be surprising to see Samsung equip its next Ultra flagship with this new sensor.
Meanwhile, another well-known tipster, Ice Universe, weighed in with a slightly different claim. According to him, the Galaxy S27 Ultra will feature a tweaked version of the HPA sensor, reportedly named HP6, with a slightly smaller 1/1.3-inch size. Despite the reduced sensor size, it is said to deliver performance comparable to the larger HPA.
The Galaxy S27 series is still about a year away from launch, and plenty more leaks are likely to surface in the months ahead. That said, it would be nice to see Samsung finally upgrade the camera hardware on its flagship S series, considering the lineup has relied on the same sensors for the past four years.
