Samsung is reportedly making a million more Galaxy S26 Ultra units than initially planned

According to a new report from its home country of Korea, Samsung is upping its initial production run for the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra, due to be made official at its Unpacked event tomorrow.

The company was allegedly planning to make around 2.5-2.9 million units initially, in the first two months, but this number has now been upped to 3.5-3.9 million units. That’s about a one million increase, and it’s definitely not small.

This is, however, just a report from “an industry insider”, so don’t forget to take it with a pinch of salt. The reasoning for the increased initial production apparently has to do with Samsung preparing for higher production costs down the line, due to rising semiconductor prices.

Basically, it’s not necessarily an indication that the company thinks the S26 Ultra will do better than it initially expected, sales-wise, in the first months of its availability. Instead, Samsung will be stockpiling the extra units to be sold later, since it can now make them at what it thinks is a lower price compared to what it will manage later in the year.

The total production plan of the S26 Ultra for the first year hasn’t changed, which further cements this theory. Samsung expects to make around 18 million units of the phone in the first year. This means it expects the Ultra to be the best seller of the S26 family by far, since it only plans to make 12 million units of the S26 and S26+ combined.
