Samsung said to discontinue its Galaxy Z Flip lineup after the Flip8

According to a Chinese tipster with a solid track record, especially when it comes to Samsung-related leaks, the company might kill off the Galaxy Z Flip lineup. And the Galaxy Z Flip8 will be the last of its kind.

Now, we’ve heard these speculations a few times over the years, but they never came out from somewhat reputable sources like Ice Universe. And at the time, it didn’t sound plausible given that the foldable segment was flourishing.

However, a few years down the road, this rather drastic decision from Samsung starts to sound a bit more believable. First, we have rising RAM prices, which force manufacturers to charge more for their smartphones. Take the recently released Motorola Razr 70 and Razr 70 Ultra, for example. Both handsets are considerably more expensive, and Motorola blames component prices for the price hike.

Secondly, if you haven’t paid enough attention, you might have missed that there aren’t many clamshell-style foldables available in Western Markets. Oppo, Xiaomi, vivo and Honor have either discontinued the sales of flip foldables in Europe and the US or have never sold one outside of China in the first place. This leaves Samsung and Motorola as the only smartphone makers with flip foldables in their portfolio.

It’s too early to tell if this is actually true, but we might see a pause of the Flip8 series instead of a full-on discontinuation.
