Today Samsung has announced that Samsung Wallet now supports Digital Key access for Volkswagen EVs, including the ID. Polo, ID. Cross, ID.3neo, ID.4, ID.5, ID.7, and ID. Buzz. This is currently rolling out in Europe for vehicles running ID. software version 6.0.1. Only vehicles produced on or after April 27, 2026 are compatible, and they need to be equipped with the “Preparation for Digital Key” option package.
Through this feature you can use a compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphone to lock, unlock, and start your car without having to use a physical key.
Digital Keys in Samsung Wallet support UWB technology for hands-free entry and NFC for tap-based unlocking and starting. You can also open the trunk through Remote Key Entry.
Digital Keys can be shared with trusted individuals through Samsung Wallet, with specific access permissions for each one. You can thus easily provide short-term access to your car to friends and family when needed.
Samsung says its Digital Keys meet EAL6+ certification standards for advanced protection against unauthorized access. They are stored directly on the device and backed by Samsung Knox. If your smartphone containing a Digital Key is lost or stolen, you can remotely manage or remove your Digital Key by using Samsung Find.
