Samsung’s mobile division might see its first quarterly loss ever

While Samsung Electronics expects record-breaking profits for Q2 2026, mainly thanks to its semiconductor business, the mobile division might see its first-ever quarterly loss. According to DealSite South Korea analysis, Samsung MX’s earnings could range between KRW 1.9 trillion ($1.38 billion) profit and KRW 1.5 trillion ($1.09 billion) loss. Still, the most probable scenario is a loss of $364-$729 million.

This might be surprising for some given the strong Galaxy S26 series performance, but if you’ve been following the memory chip prices lately, that probably doesn’t come as a surprise. The analysts believe that the rising memory chip prices are eating away at Samsung’s profits.

Interestingly enough, even during Samsung’s Note7 battery crisis, the mobile arm reported a modest $73 million profit.

Market analysis shows that RAM chip cost for an $800 phone has risen from 14% to 23%, while NAND flash storage now accounts for 15% of the phone’s production cost.
