Spotify has redesigned its tablet app, here’s what’s new

Today Spotify has announced that it’s revamped its tablet interface – for both Android tablets and iPads. The “new app experience” is tailored for tablets from the ground up, and is “designed to make listening, watching, and discovery feel more natural on larger screens”, according to the official press release.

The redesigned tablet UI isn’t just a scaled up phone version as before. Instead, it’s designed to take advantage of the extra screen real estate, “so you can browse and discover new favorites right alongside what you’re already playing”.

The UI reconfigures as you switch between portrait and landscape – it doesn’t just resize as it did before. This way, Spotify says it now feels “balanced and intentional” in both views. The new sidebar lets you browse and discover while you’re listening, thanks to its interactive and scrollable content, and you can collapse or expand it to fit your needs.

The Switch to Video toggle is front and center, letting you easily move into a more immersive viewing experience. While the UI is different, the core navigation hasn’t changed, so the experience still feels like “a natural extension of the mobile app”. The bottom navigation bar is present, and keeps your main pages within easy reach.
