March 2026 proved to be a highly profitable month for the Indian automobile industry. A total of 4,30,746 units were sold compared to 3,50,742 units in the corresponding month last year, registering a strong YoY (year-on-year) growth of 22.8%. Compared to February 2026, the industry also witnessed a healthy MoM (month-on-month) growth of 9.4%.

- Maruti Suzuki retained its top position with sales of 1,72,996 units, up from 1,34,292 units in March 2025, registering a YoY growth of 28.2%.
- Interestingly, Tata Motors overtook Mahindra & Mahindra by a significant margin to secure the second spot. The company sold 64,292 units last month against 48.724 units, compared to 48,724 units a year ago, recording an impressive YoY growth of 32.0%.
- Mahindra & Mahindra continued its strong performance with sales of 61,045 units, reflecting a 23.4% increase over 49,445 units in the same month previous year.
- Hyundai Motor India posted steady but relatively moderate growth, with sales rising to 48,667 units from 44,008 units, marking a YoY growth of 10.6%.
- Kia India recorded a solid performance, registering a 22.6% growth with sales of 27,999 units compared to 22,835 units in the same month last year.
- Toyota Kirloskar Motor maintained stable demand, selling 27,489 units against 25,485 units in the March 2025, translating to a 7.9% YoY growth.
- With sales of 8,726 units, Skoda and Volkswagen witnessed a sales decline of 8.0 percent.
- MG Motor India recorded a decent rise with sales of 6,234 units against 5,567 units in March 2025.
- Honda Cars India saw a marginal rise in sales, reaching 5,514 units last month.
- Renault India emerged as surprise gainer, recording the highest growth rate among the top 10, with a 35.3% YoY increase. The carmaker sold 3,588 units against 2,652 units, up from 2,652 units in March 2025.
