Tata BIG SUVs CNG & Hybrid Versions Under Consideration

Tata Motors has an aggressive product strategy to strengthen its presence in the passenger vehicle (PV) and electric vehicle (EV) markets, targeting an 18-20% of market share by 2030. The company has planned multiple new models across segments including urban compact EVs, midsize family cars, lifestyle SUVs and premium electric SUVs.

Focus on CNG & Hybrid for 4-Metre+ SUVs

Additionally, the homegrown automaker aims to tap into the CNG and hybrid vehicle segments by offering these powertrain options on its SUVs measuring over 4 metres in length. Tata’s existing product portfolio includes three such SUVs – the Curvv, Harrier and Safari along with the upcoming Sierra.

Speaking to an online media publication, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, said that the company might consider expanding its CNG product lineup in the 4.3 metre segment if there will be demand.  The CNG setup is likely to be offered with the turbo-petrol engine, similar to the configuration available on the Nexon CNG.

Driven By Upcoming CAFÉ 3 Norms

The push towards CNG expansion and adopting hybrid powertrains comes in light of the stricter CAFÉ 3 emission standard, which will come into effect from 2027. In FY2025, the CNG and hybrid vehicle segments witnessed growth of 35% and 15.40%, respectively.
