Tata Sierra Crash Test Results Out – 5-Star Rating Explained


The Tata Sierra is yet another SUV from the brand to receive a full 5-star safety rating. The SUV was recently subjected to the Bharat NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) crash tests, where it scored 31.14 points out of 32 in adult occupant protection and 44.73 points out of 49 in child occupant protection.

The higher Accomplished+ and Adventure+ diesel variants were sent for the NCAP cash tests; however, the 5-star safety rating applies across the entire SUV range.

Tata Sierra Bharat NCAP – Adult Occupant Protection

In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the SUV offered ‘Good’ protection for the driver’s head, legs and feet, while the chest and tibia protection was rated as ‘Adequate’. The co-driver protection appeared strong, with all critical body parts receiving a ‘Good’ protection, except for the right tibia area, which was rated ‘Adequate’. The Tata Sierra further impressed in the movable deformable barrier and side pole impact tests, where it provided ‘Good’ protection to all body parts of both the driver and co-driver.

Tata Sierra Bharat NCAP – Child Occupant Protection

The SUV also performed well in child occupant protection. The rearward-facing child seat with a 3-year-old dummy received ‘Good’ protection to the chest and prevent excessive forward movement. It scored 7.73 points out of a maximum 8 points.

The rearward facing child seat for the 1.5 year-old also provided ‘Good’ protection to the head and chest, achieving a full 8 out of 8 points. In the side crash test results, both dummies secured a perfect4 out of 4 points. The dynamic score and CRS installation score stood at 23.73 out of 24 and 12 out of 12 points, respectively. The SUV’s vehicle assessment score was 9 points out of maximum 13.

Safety Features

The standard safety kit of the Tata Sierra includes six airbags, electronic parking brake with auto hold, ABS with EBD, all wheel disc brakes and traction control. Advanced features such as Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degre camera, blind spot monitoring system and auto dimming IRVM are reserved for higher trims.
