The Tata Sierra has been a major talking point among buyers both before and after its market launch. Within a few months of its arrival, the midsize SUV crossed the 1 lakh booking mark. To meet the high demand Tata Motors has ramped up its production to over 15,000 units per month. What’s interesting now are the recently revealed ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) mileage figures of the Sierra, which came to light after an RTI (Right to Information) filed on 26th November 2025.
According to a post on X by Vahan Warta, the ARAI-certified mileage figures of the Sierra 1.5L TGDi turbo petrol and 1.5L Kryojet diesel engines are 13.5kmpl and 18.8kmpl, respectively. The fuel efficiency of the 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine had not been certified untill December 19, 2025. These ARAI-rated figures also invalidate the Sierra’s previously claimed Natrax national fuel efficiency record of 29.9kmpl, achieved during a 12-hours run with the 1.5L Hyperion petrol engine. It’s important to note that Tata Motors have never revealed the ARAI-certified mileage figures of the Sierra.
PS: ARAI is yet to release the official mileage of the Tata Sierra’s 1.5L petrol engine. However, multiple buyers have reported achieving a real-world mileage around 15kmpl – 17kmpl.

Factors Affecting a Car’s Mileage
A vehicle’s mileage depends on multiple factors such as engine size and type, aerodynamics, weight and driving behaviour. Hard acceleration and frequent braking can significantly reduce fuel efficiency. Additionally, driving at a steady speed of 60-80kmph speed usually offers best mileage, while higher speed (over 100kmph) tend to reduce efficiency due to increased air resistance.
Engine Specs
The Tata Sierra is currently available within the price range of Rs 11.49 lakh – Rs 21.29 lakh (ex-showroom). The 1.5L, 4-cylinder direct-injection turbo petrol engine, with a 6-speed automatic gearbox, delivers a claimed power of 160PS and 255Nm of torque. The 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine is good enough for 106PS and 145Nm. The Sierra diesel uses a 1.5L turbo engine, pushing out a maximum power of 118PS and 260Nm (MT)/280Nm (AT).
