Back in April a rumor from Korea claimed that Samsung was redesigning the rears of the entire Galaxy S27 family, with the camera island being moved around in order for the company to be able to finally fit magnets for wireless charging to its flagship phones.
A few days later the speculative render seen below emerged, purportedly showing the design of the Galaxy S27 Ultra (which is also expected to come with only three cameras). However, today a new rumor from Korea claims that Samsung hasn’t decided anything yet.
This source says all of the rumored designs (including the one depicted above) are wrong. The company is apparently considering multiple options, but none of them feature “a simple horizontal layout” like this. So maybe there are more ‘complex’ horizontal designs on the table.
The most intriguing part of this rumor is that it alleges that Samsung may very well just scrap the idea altogether, leaving the existing vertical camera island design untouched save for the removal of one camera. Thus, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could end up looking similar to the Galaxy S26 and S26+, more so than the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Of course it’s still very early in these phones’ development cycle, so there are no guarantees that any of these rumors are accurate. That’s why it’s always a good idea to take them with a grain of salt.
