'The Devil': Kannada superstar Darshan Thoogudeepa's upcoming film locks release date
Despite the turbulence surrounding his legal battles, Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa’s highly anticipated film ‘The Devil’ is scheduled for a December 11th launch. The production team, who successfully wrapped filming while Darshan was on bail, convened a press event without their leading man, sharing their sorrow over his absence.

Kannada superstar Darshan Thoogudeepa remains lodged in Bengaluru Central Prison in connection with the high-profile fan murder case. Recently, it has been announced that his much-anticipated film ‘The Devil’ is gearing up for release this month. Find out details below.

‘The Devil’ release date announced

As per an IANS report, the announcement was officially made by the film’s team during a press conference held in Bengaluru on Tuesday. During the conference, it was announced that the film will be hitting the big screens on December 11th this year.

Press meet held in Darshan’s absence

Director Prakash Veer confirmed that the press conference was originally planned only after Darshan’s release, but delays forced the team to proceed without him. Addressing the media, he expressed regret over the situation, adding, “We waited till now, and today we are holding the press meet. Please forgive us for the delay. Unfortunately, even today, Darshan is not with us.”The director admitted that Darshan’s absence was emotionally difficult, calling the star his “strength of an elephant” and a strong support system throughout their professional journey.

Darshan completed filming while out on bail

Darshan had finished both shooting and dubbing for ‘The Devil’ during the period he was out on bail. Prakash Veer praised the superstar’s professionalism, stating that there was “no difference in his performance” even when he resumed shooting after coming out of jail. The director further revealed that the title ‘The Devil’ was selected because it perfectly matched the story rather than for its title.‘The Devil’ stars Sharmiela Mandre, Rachana Rai, and Achyuth Kumar in key roles.

About Renukaswamy murder case

For the unversed, Darshan with Pavithra Gowda, and 15 others were arrested on June 11 for allegedly kidnapping and murdering a 33-year-old fan Renukaswamy. He received interim bail on October 30, 2024, for six weeks on medical grounds to undergo spine surgery after spending 131 days in custody since his arrest on June 11, 2024. Later, the Karnataka High Court granted him regular bail on December 13, 2024. However, the Supreme Court canceled his bail on August 13, 2025.
