This Made-in-India SUV Hits 2 Lakh Exports in Record Time

Launched in April 2023, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx has completed three successful years in the Indian market. Since its arrival, the compact crossover has crossed the 2 lakh export milestone in under 38 months, becoming the fastest SUV from India to achieve this feat. While the Made-in-India SUV achieved its first lakh exports in under 25 months, it added the second lakh in around 13 months. Manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, the Maruti Fronx is being exported to nearly 90 countries, including Japan.

FY2026 was the best-ever selling financial year for the Fronx, with over 1.72 lakh units sold. The compact crossover has always been favoured for its coupe-SUV styling, turbocharged engine performance and fuel efficiency.

Official Statement

Speaking on the milestone, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “Every vehicle exported by Maruti Suzuki carries the hard work and pride of our people. Together, these vehicles take a piece of Indian manufacturing to nearly 120 countries. FRONX has been a key contributor to Maruti Suzuki’s success in exports. Since FY 24-25, it has been India’s No. 1 exported passenger vehicle* and is now shipped to nearly 90 countries. After crossing the milestone of 1 lakh exports in record time, FRONX reached its second lakh significantly faster, underlining its growing demand in the international markets.”

He added, “Aligned with ‘Make in India, Make for the World’, Maruti Suzuki continues to showcase the prowess of India’s manufacturing ecosystem. Sustained focus on exports has earned the Company the number one position in passenger vehicle exports from India*. Illustrating this leadership, all three of India’s top exported passenger vehicles in Q1 FY 26-27^ were from Maruti Suzuki. The growing export volumes year-on-year are a strong endorsement of the reliability and appeal of the Company’s products across global markets.”

Upcoming Updates For the Maruti Fronx

The Fronx is likely to receive a midlife update in the coming months, followed by an addition of a new strong hybrid powertrain in 2027. It will become the first Maruti Suzuki to feature the in-house developed series hybrid powertrain, and expected to offer a fuel efficiency of over 35kmpl.

The carmaker is likely to electrify its tried-and-tested 1.2L, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine for the new hybrid setup. The existing naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol engine will also continue to be on offer.

The Maruti Fronx flex-fuel is also in the pipeline. Showcased at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show, the crossover’s flex fuel version is capable of running on fuel containing up to 85% ethanol. Based on the standard Japan-spec Fronx, the model featured a 1.5L K15 Series naturally aspirated petrol engine.
