Brand-Wise Performance Explained

  • Maruti Suzuki remained the undisputed market leader with a 39-40% market share. Models such as the Dzire, WagonR, Swift, Baleno and Brezza were the key volume generators.
  • Mahindra & Mahindra secured the second position with total sales of 6,31,638 units, registering a YoY growth of 22.2%.
  • Tata Motors held on to the third position, with growth driven by the Nexon, Punch and EV lineup. These models continue to be popular for their safety, multiple engine options, and affordability.
  • Hyundai Motor India, with a balanced product portfolio, ranked fourth, recording a marginal 3.1% YoY growth with 5,78,337 units sales.
  • Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s success was largely driven by its hybrid models including the Hyryder and Innova Hycross.
  • Kia India secured the sixth position with sales of 2,79,363 units, supported by strong demand for the Seltos and Sonet.
  • Skoda Auto Volkswagen India posted a significant 29.8% YoY growth with total sales reaching 1,10,070 units in FY2026.
  • JSW MG Motor recorded steadily with its ICE and EV product lineup, while Honda Cars India remained stable with a limited product portfolio. Renault India made it to the top 10 with its budget-focused offerings.

Key EV Market Insights

  • Tata Motors emerged as the clear winner in FY2026, followed by JSW MG Motor and Mahindra & Mahindra.
  • The Tata Nexon EV, Punch EV and Tiago EV emerged as the top sales contributors, while MG’s volume  was driven by Windsor EV, Comet EV and ZS EV.
  • Mahindra & Mahindra strengthened its position with its expanding EV portfolio including the XEV and BE range, along with the XUV 3XO EV and XUV 400 EV.
  • Hyundai Motor India, despite relatively low volume than Mahindra, secured the fourth position due to its strong brand value and premium EV positioning.
  • BYD India emerged as one of the fastest growing premium EV brands, known for its Blade battery technology and advanced features.
  • Kia recorded a massive 794.26% YoY growth, selling 3,788 EVs in FY2026. Maruti Suzuki was a late entrant in the EV segment, recording total sales of 1,416. Mercedes-Benz AG witnessed a 9.51% YoY decline, with total sales of 1,047 units.
