Toyota Kirloskar Motor has planned multiple new products across segments, offering a variety of powertrain options. According to a fresh report, the Toyota Corolla Cross SUV is under consideration for an India launch, and is expected to arrive by late 2028 or early 2029. A few years ago, there were rumours about its launch; however, the project was shelved due to technical and commercial viability concerns.

Positioning & Competition
If launched, the Toyota Corolla Cross will be positioned against rivals such as the Hyundai Tucson, and Jeep Compass in terms of size, price and positioning. However, its pricing is also expected to overlap with models like the Hyundai Alcazar, Jeep Meridian, Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV 7XO. If priced quite aggressively, it could even attract buyers considering the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
The Corolla Cross shares its platform with the Toyota Innova Hycross, which suggests it might also borrow powertrain options. However, the Innova Hycross has a longer wheelbase, which may be excessive for a C-segment SUV. This also raises the possibility that Corolla Cross could accommodate an additional row of seats, making it a three-row SUV.
Expected Powertrain Options
Globally, the Toyota Corolla Cross is available with two hybrid powertrains – a 140bhp, 1.8L petrol electric and a 197bhp, 2.0L petrol electric. As mentioned above, the India-bound model might share the 2.0L naturally aspirated petrol and 2.0L petrol hybrid powertrains with the Innova Hycross.
The petrol engine, paired with a CVT automatic gearbox, delivers a maximum power of 173bhp and 205-209Nm of torque. The strong hybrid setup offers a combined power of 183-186bhp and 188Nm (engine) + 206Nm (motor) of torque.
