JSW MG Motor recently announced its plan to launch multiple new products in India including a plug-in hybrid model. While the carmaker remains tight lipped about the new hybrid SUV, it’s expected to be based on the China-spec Wuling Starlight 560. Recently, a heavily camouflaged test mule of the MG Starlight 560 has been caught on camera during its test rounds near Vadodara in Gujarat. Here’re all key details we know so far about the upcoming MG hybrid SUV.
Design Highlights

Measuring between 4.5m – 4.8m in length, the MG Starlight 560 features a boxy and upright stance, giving it a commanding road presence. Its front fascia appears squarish with split headlamps featuring slim lighting elements. The test mule was equipped with large alloy wheels, bold shoulder creases and connected LED taillamps.
Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain
The new Starlight 560 will be built on the modular F150 platform that supports multiple powertrains including electric and plug-in hybrid. Globally, the Wuling SUV’s plug-in hybrid version features a 1.5L petrol engine, paired with a front-axle mounted electric motor and a 20.5kWh battery pack. It delivers a combined power of 197bhp and 230Nm of torque. The SUV offers a pure electric range of 100km on a full charge, and with a full 52-litre fuel tank, the total range extends up to 1,100km.
Premium Features
The upcoming MG hybrid SUV is expected to share several features with its China-spec counterpart. The feature list might include a larger 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof, a fully digital instrument cluster, ventilated and powered front seats, a 360-degree camera, ADAS and more.
Launch & Competition
The MG Starlight 560 hybrid SUV is expected to make India debut towards the end of this year. In terms of pricing and positioning, it will take on the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Mahindra XEV 9S.
