Dhanush has always shared a deep bond with music. While audiences know him for intense performances in films like ‘Karnan’ and ‘Asuran’, his journey as a singer began much earlier. Composer Yuvan Shankar Raja introduced him as a playback singer in ‘Pudhukottaiyilirundhu Saravanan’. Years later, one heartfelt moment brought that musical side back into focus, when Dhanush sang ‘Ilamai Thirumbudhe’ for his ex-wife Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth.

The clip shows Dhanush singing ‘Ilamai Thirumbudhe’ from ‘Petta’, directed by Karthik Subbaraj. He performs the song exclusively for Aishwaryaa, who joins in and matches his steps. Fans were moved by the warmth of the moment. The video spread rapidly across social media, reminding audiences of a simpler, affectionate phase of their relationship.
A love story fans once adored
Dhanush and Aishwaryaa married on November 18, 2004, in an intimate ceremony. He is the son of filmmaker Kasthuriraja, while she is the elder daughter of superstar Rajinikanth. Over the years, they became one of the most loved couples in South cinema. They welcomed two sons, Yatra in 2006 and Linga in 2010.After 18 years together, they announced their separation in January 2022. In their joint note, they wrote, “18 years of togetherness as friends, couple, as parents and well-wishers to each other. The journey has been of growth, understanding, adjusting and adapting. Today we stand at a place where our paths separate.” The Chennai family court granted their divorce in November 2024. Despite the split, they continue to co-parent their children positively.
Dhanush’s journey ahead
On the work front, Dhanush is set to portray music legend ‘Ilaiyaraaja’ in an upcoming biopic, with the maestro composing the music himself. Another major project, Kalam, will see him play APJ Abdul Kalam under the direction of Om Raut.
