Which SUV Is Better For Your Budget & Needs

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Tata Nexon, India’s two top-selling sub-4 metre SUVs, share a strong rivalry in the segment. The Brezza recently received a midlife update, featuring subtle design changes inside and out along with the introduction of a new turbocharged petrol engine. If you’re considering either of these two subcompact SUVs for your next purchase, here’s a comparison to help you check which one best suits your requirements.

Budget-conscious buyers

The 2026 Maruti Brezza facelift is currently available within the price range of Rs 7.40 lakh – Rs 13.55 lakh, while the Tata Nexon is priced between Rs 7.37 lakh – Rs 14.22 lakh (all, ex-showroom). The starting prices of both SUVs are nearly identical.

The Brezza offers the most affordable turbo -petrol among the two. Furthermore, the top-end Brezza is over Rs 1 lakh more affordable than the Nexon’s top-end variant. If you want a decently equipped SUV within a slightly lower budget, the new Brezza makes a sensible choice. However, the Tata Nexon justifies its higher price with some additional features.

Buyers looking for a modern design

The 2026 Maruti Brezza facelift looks slightly refreshing than its pre-facelifted version. The new turbocharged petrol variants appear sportier than the regular variant, thanks to red exterior highlights. On the other hand, the Tata Nexon carries a modern design language with a wider stance and connected LED taillamps.

That said, design is subjective, and buyers should choose the model that matches their personal taste.

Feature-focused buyers

If a feature-packed interior is your priority, the Tata Nexon makes a better choice, as it offers several additional features over the new Brezza. It comes packed with a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and a 9-speaker JBL sound system. Meanwhile, the new Brezza offers a 10.1-inch touchscreen, a 4-inch MID, wireless charging and ambient lighting.

Buyers looking for a spacious SUV

Dimensionally, both SUVs are nearly identical. Both measure 3,995mm in length, while the Nexon is 14mm wider. Tthe Brezza is 65mm taller and has a marginally longer wheelbase. Buyers won’t get any major advantage in terms of space.

Buyers looking for more engine options

The Tata Nexon offers a wider range of powertrian options including a 120PS, 1.2L turbo petrol, 100PS, 1.2L + CNG, 1.5L diesel and an-all electric version. Whereas, the 2026 Maruti Brezza offers 103PS, 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol, 88PS, 1.5L NA + CNG and 110PS, 1.0L turbo petrol.

When it comes to transmissions, the Brezza offers 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearboxes, while the Nexon comes with 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, 6-speed AMT and 7-speed DCA transmission options.

Buyers seeking better performance

If you want outright performance, the Tata Nexon’s 1.2L turbo petrol delivers 120PS and the turbo diesel produces 260Nm of torque. It’s CNG version also comes with a spare wheel, whereas the Brezza CNG misses out on one.

The new Brezza 1.0L turbo petrol engine offers 110PS with 170Nm, making it more powerful than its naturally aspirated petrol engine. Additionally, the Brezza turbo petrol manual offers one of the best city driving experiences in the segment.

Verdict

The new 2026 Maruti Brezza facelift makes an ideal choice for buyers looking for an updated SUV at more affordable price with a decently-loaded interior and the best turbo-petrol manual performance.

The Tata Nexon, on the other hand, is better suited for buyers who prefer more features, a wider choice of engine and transmission options and better performance figures, even at a slightly higher price.
