Los Angeles police on Monday identified a 35-year-old Florida woman as the alleged shooter who opened fire on Rihanna’s Southern California home with an AR-15-style rifle.
Ivanna Lisette Ortiz was booked into custody on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the Sunday afternoon incident at the property just outside Beverly Hills, police said.
The nine-time Grammy winner was at home when the suspect opened fire, but she was not hurt by any of the four rounds fired from an AR-15-style rifle that hit the property, police said.
A$AP Rocky and their children were also inside the Beverly Crest home, just north of Beverly Hills, when shots were fired at about 1:15 p.m. PDT, police said.
The property’s front gate appeared to have bullet holes, and police investigated the area on Sunday.
The suspect drove up to the property’s entrance and started shooting, police said. A possible motive wasn’t clear for hours immediately after the attack.
A car, matching the description of the one seen at Rihanna’s house during the shooting, was spotted in nearby Sherman Oaks where officers did a traffic stop and arrested the suspect, LAPD sources told NBC Los Angeles.
The woman under arrest in L.A. was linked to social media accounts of an Illinois native who claims to work as a speech therapist in Florida.
State records indicate that there is a woman of the same name who is a licensed speech-language pathologist, who is currently in good standing. The license was isued on March 17, 2015 and is active until Dec. 31, 2027, according to state records.
She was arrested at 2:20 p.m. on Sunday and booked into L.A. County jail shortly after 2 a.m. on Monday, according to sheriff’s records.
Ortiz’s bail was listed in jail records at $10.225 million.
The suspect has arrest records linked to Florida.
Her divorce from ex-husband Jed Sangalang turned violent on June 25, 2023, when he dropped off their children at Ortiz’s apartment.
Ortiz had texted Sangalang that, “You’ll be socked on the nose tonight” at the drop off, according to an affidavit from Orlando police officer Jessica Hamrick.
Cell phone video of the confrontation showed Ortiz calling Sangalang a homophobic slur.
“Based on the above facts, circumstances, independent witness statement and video evidence, I find Ivanna Ortiz to be the primary aggressor of the above incident,” leading to her arrest on suspicion of domestic battery.
