The all-new Yamaha YZF-R2 is now on sale in India at a starting price of Rs 2.30 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new Yamaha motorcycle competes with the Hero Karizma XMR, KTM RC 200 and Suzuki Gixxer SF 250. It sits just above the R15 V4 series in the company’s portfolio, and comes in three variants – Base, Mid and M.

The YZF-R2 base variant is priced at Rs 2,30,500, while the Mid and M variants are available at Rs 2,39,500 and Rs 2,53,000, respectively. All mentioned prices are ex-showroom, Delhi. The Base variant is offered in Metallic Blue and Dark Bluish Gray colour schemes, while the Mid variant comes in Racing Blue and Matte White Pearl shades. The top-end Yamaha YZF-R2M variant is exclusively available in Metallic Gray paint scheme.
Yamaha R2 Engine Specs
At the heart of the new Yamaha YZF-R2 is an all-new 204cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, paired with a 6-speed transmission and a slip and assist clutch. The engine delivers a claimed power of 26.5PS at 10,000rpm and a maximum torque of 19.1Nm at 8,000rpm. It also offers three riding modes – Street, Rain and Sport.
Yamaha R2 Suspension & Barking System
Suspension duties are performed by a 37mm inverted fork and monoshock at the rear. Braking power comes from front and rear disc brakes, with a four-piston Nissin caliper at the front and a Bybre caliper at the rear. It also gets dual channel ABS (antilock braking system) and a switchable traction control. The bike carries a kerb weight of 149kg and rides on 17-inch alloy wheels shod with MRF tyres.
Yamaha R2 Features
Yamaha has equipped the all-new YZF-R2 with features such as all LED lighting, a 5-inch TFT instrument console with turn-by-turn navigation and smartphone connectivity and Yamaha’s Y-Connect mobile application. The top-end Yamaha R2M variant is exclusively offered with keyless ignition with a key fob, adjustable levers and adjustable suspension system. The Yamaha YFZ-R2 is also the first vehicle in its segment to offer bidirectional quickshifter.
